Radio Lear Call-Out For Contributors

Radio Lear Call-Out For Contributors

Radio Lear is seeking contributors working across sound, music, writing and experimental broadcasting. We are interested in artists and producers whose work explores atmosphere, place, memory, folklore, soundscape, storytelling, transmission, field recording, creative dialogue and the imaginative possibilities of radio.

The station broadcasts on DAB across Leicester, Loughborough and Rugby, and online via radiolear.uk. Our focus is on emergent arts, metamodern culture and exploratory forms of listening. We are particularly interested in work that sits between disciplines: sound art that becomes documentary, music that behaves like landscape, spoken word that drifts into dream, or field recordings that reveal hidden emotional textures within everyday environments.

Radio Lear operates as a broadcast platform rather than simply a streaming channel or podcast feed. Contributors are invited to think about radio as a cultural form with its own sense of rhythm, atmosphere and shared listening. We are interested in crafted audio experiences that can inhabit public space, late-night listening, reflective journeys, uncertain moods and imaginative conversations.

We welcome approaches from independent musicians, sonic experimenters, audio dramatists, essayists, poets, folk researchers, electronic composers, ambient producers, radio-makers, cultural historians, psychogeographers, walkers, archivists and creative practitioners interested in sound as a social and imaginative medium.

Potential contributions might include short audio works, themed mixes, reflective essays, interviews, discussions, field recordings, sound diaries, hauntological experiments, documentary fragments or collaborative broadcasts. We are especially interested in work that values texture, ambiguity, emotional depth and careful listening over speed, spectacle or commercial formatting.

As a licensed DAB broadcaster, Radio Lear works within the Ofcom Broadcast Code. Contributors will be supported to understand the requirements of broadcast production and editorial practice. The intention is to build a sustainable and collaborative broadcasting culture rooted in care, curiosity and artistic exploration.
