Take Part
Radio Lear is a place for thoughtful sound and considered imagination. We broadcast on DAB across Leicester and Loughborough and online. As a licensed radio service, our programmes are regulated by Ofcom and must comply with the Ofcom Broadcasting Code at all times.
Participation in Radio Lear is by individual membership only. To take part you must subscribe to Radio Lear’s Patreon, which is administered by Decentered Media. Our Patreon account operates on a legacy 8% platform fee plan retained by Patreon; this differs from the standard 10% rate applied to new creators. Your membership sustains curation, compliance, distribution and technical operations that keep Radio Lear on air.
If you produce content for Radio Lear, you are committing to work in line with the Ofcom Broadcast Code. This covers, among other duties, standards on harm and offence, due accuracy and due impartiality where required, fairness and privacy, commercial references, and sponsorship. We support contributors with light-touch editorial guidance so creative work remains within the Code while retaining its distinctive character.
What you bring matters. If your practice involves experimental music, radio art, documentary collage, spoken-word, soundwalks, or slow listening, we will help shape an editorial plan, agree deliverables, and arrange broadcast slots that fit the station’s aesthetic and regulatory framework.
We are happy to discuss participation by groups or organisations for commissions, residencies or partnership strands. Where fees are involved, budgets and rates will follow Arts Council England’s recognised guidance used for publicly funded projects. We will scope each proposal so that rates, rights and deliverables are clear and fair for all involved.
How to begin is simple. First, become a Patreon member. Then introduce yourself and your idea with a short sample or outline using the form on this page. We will reply with next steps, including editorial guidance, technical specifications, and an induction to our Broadcast Code compliance process.
Editorial & Compliance
Radio Lear operates under the Ofcom Broadcasting Code. This framework safeguards creative freedom by grounding it in accuracy, fairness, protection from harm and offence, and respect for privacy. Each programme passes through a light-touch editorial review so that contributors understand and meet the Code while sustaining Radio Lear’s reflective, metamodern sound.
Contributors receive practical guidance on planning and delivery, including induction to our compliance process. Where a topic requires due impartiality or heightened care, we will agree approaches in advance and provide oversight appropriate to broadcast standards.
